Imagine going out with your friends to have an enjoyable time and your life is taken from you. On September 5, 2025, Kalielah Davis was taken from this world too early. Davis was described as an 18-year-old, silly, bubbly, loving and bright person. Davis went to Jordan Vocational High School located in Columbus, Georgia, and was a part of JROTC. Multiple police reports state that Davis had parked by the Kadie the Cow statue on 1000 Bay Ave., with her friends. A group of four to five young men fired a gun in which a bullet hit Davis in the head causing her to pass away. During that night, Phrozen Cowboys was hosted by the fraternity Alpha Phi Alpha. There is a chance that Davis could have been in the area attending the event when the incident transpired. CPD Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Investigative Services, Matt Blackstock, states that the shooting was an unprovoked attack and that Davis, alongside her friends, were not doing anything wrong.
As young adults, we go out without thinking about the worst-case scenario and we go out on the town aiming to have an enjoyable time. Nobody expects a tragedy to happen on a Friday night, but it is possible that it can happen, as seen with the Kalielah Davis case. Kalielah was freshly out of high school, and her life was just beginning, only for it to be taken. Five suspects have been taken into custody, two adults and three juveniles, according to the Columbus Ledger. The suspects’ two names have been released to the public. Their names are Kacin Grant, 21, and Lamarcus Williams, 18. Another thing that has come out is Bay Avenue has been restricted to night beginning at 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. There is also police presence and nobody is allowed on Bay Avenue, as it is closed off.
As young adults, we never expect our nights to end with tragedy, but unfortunately, things happen unexpectedly. Gun violence is one of the things that needs to be handled within America. Too many people can access guns, and typically, good people end up in the crossfire.
Our hands are stretched out to the Davis family and Kalielah’s friends. May Kalielah rest in peace. She was so young and had so much to bring to this world.
