The Current: How I thought of a new name for The Saber

The community has decided: The Saber must change its name. We juggled over many ideas for the name. I knew I wanted something that captured the essence of Columbus, something that drew inspiration from its many fountains and the Chattahoochee River. I finally came up with The Current. The Current is representative of Columbus’ dependence on the Chattahoochee River and the flow of its water. Additionally, it represents how CSU’s student-run newspaper focuses on what’s happening and affecting the lives of the people that work and learn here. CSU’s campus is one of the most diverse of Georgia’s public universities, and we should have a name to represent that diversity. The Saber no longer represents our BIPOC students. We hope that our vibrant community appreciates and enjoys ‘The Current’, as our leading contender for a new name. Our official plan is to debut our new name in the spring semester of 2021. We welcome your feedback as always.
