Columbus State University recently expanded its counseling services with Uwill, a program that allows students to access counseling and therapeutic services online. Services are free — students don’t need worry about insurance or payment, as Uwill services are covered by the Student Health Fee students pay as part of their tuition at CSU.
Availability is flexible, allowing you to make appointments to fit your schedule. Some therapists may even be available for an appointment on the same day, in some cases. The style of the appointment can also be customized, with Uwill offering video, phone, chat and message options, depending on the student’s preference.
The Uwill services helps students filter counselor options for those that best suit their needs and preferences. Students can select certain criteria for a potential therapist, such as gender, ethnicity, language and focus areas. Therapists can help students with issues like academic challenges, anxiety and navigating relationship difficulties, along with many others. Counselors list their realms of expertise on their Uwill profile so that students can choose a counselor with confidence.
The providers listed in their catalogs are licensed mental health professionals, from Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychologists, Licensed Family and Marriage Therapists, and more.
Students can have four sessions with a therapist through this service per academic year, with an option for additional sessions if available. After the session credits are used, students will be directed to the campus counseling services or other local providers.
The Uproar reached out to Dr. Dan Rose, the director of CSU’s Counseling Center, for a statement on this new program. He wrote: “We know that a crisis can happen at any point in time, be it really early in the morning or really late at night and we are glad that students at CSU now have connection to a counselor at any time they need. We are also happy that the students have an option so they don’t have to be on any wait list and they can be seen as quickly as they need to or want to.”
With over 60% of college students in the nation meeting criteria for a mental illness, the addition of Uwill is a great inclusion in CSU’s counseling services, ensuring accessible and affordable care for all students here at Columbus State University.
